Hacking Code with a Machete….

Posted by DSAFIRE on September 28th, 2007

OK, so I’ve found a WordPress plugin that will run a feed aggregate which functions like a LiveJournal “friends page”. It’s here. It’s even a relatively simple install. With this, I could easily and happliy never set foot on LJ’s domain again. (rss feeds dont count as page hits, right?)

Problem. It’s not calling into my WP theme properly. I *think* what’s going on is it’s not pulling the specified pagecontainer. So it looks teh crappay and is hard to read. Anyone know where (and what) I can insert into the php code to make it do that right? Right now it leaves the page as black on dark grey, at full width, and it’s imposible to read this way.
EDIT: OK, so after some more experimentation with cut and paste, it’s calling the background box. But it’s still sizing wrong… *flail*

Exit, stage right, quietly.

Well, I’ve quietly and without fanfare left my Warcraft guild.

I’m not happy with the direction things were going in… the light laid-back attitude I enjoyed so much seems to have gone, in favor of the pressure of entry level raiding. That I could probably adjust to, in the name of my friends there.

But I can not and will not be associated (even in something as frivolous as a computer game) with someone wearing the tag “Tarbabe”. I cant do it. It makes me feel dirty, hypocritical.

I just hope like hell people dont give me shit for it. I feel like some kind of freak as it is for even having any kind of ethical ideal these days. It makes me sad. I’ll miss my friends there, a lot. But this is something I have to do.

Maybe my ideals are too stringent, too strict. But Im about as capable of letting go of them as I am of walking to the moon. This is who I am. I can be hard to take. Some things are written in stone for me. Zero tolerance for racisim is one of them.

Im not asking anyone to live up to my worldview. But I wont cross certain lines. I have to be true to myself, everything else is a lie.

It may sound nutty, but we’ve successfully leash-trained the cat. Intro to toddlers, trees, and squirrels has been accomplished. Downside is, he is now constantly yowrling to go outside, and racing from the windows to the door and back again.

Sorry buddy, you’re *not* going out again right now, and certainly not unattended till you’re a full sized cat. Or at least have finished teething.

He has at least lost his baby fangs finally though. We had a few days grace, and now he’s back to the chewies as he works on other teeth.

Finally got to see Karazhan last night in Warcraft. My first post-expansion raid content. Yay for finally getting to the big-kid table! We downed the first boss easily, so we pass the gear check, but Moroes hasnt dropped yet in the guild’s two weeks post entry. Im told this is at least partially because we’ve (both weeks) gotten one of the worst combinations for his adds(the three healer setup) and IMHO partially because we’re still pretty gear-light. Hopefully today’s soft-reset will give us a better combo.

Another year.

Updating on stuff.

OK, so the BNL concert was fantastic. The guys were witty and fun, obviously enjoying themselves. They played a long set of “the hits”, and not much of the later stuff that I personally think is much better material, but hey, they knew their audience.

Genesis blew my mind. They were absolutely relentless. As far as I could tell, they havent slowed down one tiny bit. Phil was taking it a bit easy on vocals, and “the Drum Thing” wasnt as long as i’ve seen it go on other convert vids, but then he spent more time behind the kit than he’s done in past shows. My only regret is they didnt do “Jesus, he Knows Me”, which is one of my favorites.

I’ve got some pics of both shows, but I need to sort them out and see if any of them came out well. We were further from the stage for both of these than we were for The Police.

In Domestic news, Lucky got out yesterday. He managed to push the front window screen out of the frame. This resulted in him being found by a neighbor, who passed him off to another neighbor who called the vet (he’s wearing a tag with this vax info and vet’s ad), who called The Old Man (who’s name is on the vet bills) who called my Sister-In-Law who called us at 9:30 AM to go reclaim him. So I repaired the front screen (I just needed to reseat the thingamobober that holds the screening in) and that was that.

This morning after a looooong night’s sleep I opened up the windows since it’s a cool but damp day. Lucky started bolting back and forth between kitchen and front windows, yrowwwwling like Ive never heard him do before. I followed him to the kitchen window on one of his runs, thinking to calm him down a bit, to find he’s pushed that one out as well. He didnt start heading through it untill he saw I was behind him though. He wants to go out, but doesnt want to go out *alone* apparently. So now the kitchen window is shut till Lee gets up to help me get that one fixed.

I want to get him a harness and leash so I can teach him where home is. I just dont think he’s old enough to not get lost if I just let him loose, and besides, that’s not really safe. I really do prefer the idea of leash training him for some outdoor expedition time, but we havent been able to pick up the gear.

For now he’s settled down and is happliy hunting the flies that have gotten in through the broken screens.

Off and running

Being kidnapped and taken up north for an early birthday present for me.

My SIL got me tickets to see the Barenaked Ladies again, up at a casino on the Rez.

Erica, if you’re reading, hope you are having a fantastic day, Happy birthday. :)

Be back tomorrow night.

Finally found something that teething, currently double-fanged kitten apparently likes to chew on that isnt my arm/fingers. He wont touch cat teething toys or anything stuffed or plush.

Halved, cold, broccoli stems. But you have to hold it for him as he shreds it, he hasnt figured out how to pin it down.

The cold I fully get, but a CAT who likes broccoli? Have I mentioned he also loves unsalted cashews?

Why do I always end up with the insane pets?
