Obama Wallpaper

Im feeling Obama-Festive today. So to diverge from my usual road of the stark black desktop, I threw together the Obama ‘08 logo (which I happen to think is some DAMN good logo design) with THIS wallpaper I found at DeviantArt after some random googling. Meet my new desktop image, and feel free to share it if you like, download link is HERE.

Ok, so now I know at least one of my readers is going “oh god, not another Obamatron. Let me just put it out there.

A) I’m a Socially Liberal Democrat. Have been since I was about ten and started reading The New York Times. Do I blindly follow party lines? No, I have voted Republican, Independent, and Libertarian when I felt the candidate best suited. Democrat is rather my default setting though.

B) As far as Mr. McCain, I disagree with much of his foreign policy platform, and his anti-abortion stance. I am highly mistrust full of his chosen running mate, who has been quoted as supporting teaching Creationism in schools, and who is also strongly anti-abortion.

C) The repugnant continuing use of 9/11 images and footage by the Republican party (RUDI, STFU ALREADY!) and at the RNC leaves me utterly disgusted. It is inappropriate, it is disrespectful, and to my eye it is nothing but fear and hate mongering.

So Obama it is.

JamesBrown… celebrity… Hottub… YEH!

Up to SIL’s Boss’ “Cottage” Sunday, as I mentioned in my last post. Good god that place is gorgeous, both inside and out. As a location for “business meeting” weekends with the Rock People, this place simply cant be beat. It’s entirely done up in assorted types of stone and wood, with the loveliest cherry floors ever. Outside, it’s Northern Ontario Forest, mostly au natural, with lots of pine and birch on a small lake which is part of the local hydro-electric setup. Despite the opening and closing of the dam on a regular basis, it’s still swim and fish-able. And now there’s a hot tub too. I can now state with certainty that I LOVE hot tubs. (more…)

Keeping Busy

After a long hiatus in the fog of my own brain I’ve kicked back into “get shit done” mode.Working on fixing up our apartment before the holidays hit, a strange little tic that probably dates back to Grandfa’s house painting habits.
Lee and I have thus far repainted the bathroom and kitchen, have patched the plaster on the worst section of available wall, and are finally nearing completion on the refinishing of the upper cabinets in the kitchen. As soon as we get ahold of one of those finish touchup markers for wood, so we can fix the detailing we added to the doors. Then to paint the main rooms. Which is taking us a while to get done due to our mutual dread of moving our bookcases.
Work work is also getting done. I finally dove in and got going on some of the smaller CVS projects that have been kicking around here needing to be done. A flyer for a buddy, some invoice customization work for the rock people (which I still need to finalize), and tonight, some billboard designs for the smokes people. Lee’s putting together a couple more concepts for them, which we’ll email images of before the night is done. He still needs to complete the logo they requested, but then, I cant really work on that. Lee’s the logo-master, I’m just the manipulation & layout monkey.
It feels good to get stuff done though.
